About Us

At Big Sky Inspections, we believe a home should be built right and inspected with honesty, experience, and a sharp eye for detail. Proudly locally owned and operated in Montana, we bring hard-earned, hands-on knowledge to every inspection.

With over 30 years working as a commercial plumber and HVAC technician — along with personally building multiple homes from the ground up — we know what quality workmanship looks like and where problems like to hide. From foundations to roofing, heating systems to plumbing, we inspect every home with the same care and attention we’d expect for our own family.

Buying a home is one of the biggest investments you’ll ever make. Our job is to give you straight answers, dependable insight, and the confidence to move forward knowing exactly what you’re getting.

No shortcuts. No guesswork. Just honest Montana values and inspections you can trust.

Hi, I’m John James, owner of Big Sky Inspections. I’ve spent more than 30 years working in the construction trades, and I’ve built my business on the values of honesty, hard work, and attention to detail. Over the years, I’ve earned my Master Plumber license, became a Journeyman Carpenter, and worked as an HVAC technician. That experience gives me a unique perspective when inspecting a home, because I’ve spent decades building, repairing, and understanding how homes function from the inside out.

I started Big Sky Inspections because I wanted to help people make confident decisions when buying or selling a home. I know that purchasing a home is one of the biggest investments you’ll ever make, and I believe you deserve an inspector who takes the time to look beyond the surface and explain what they find in a way that’s easy to understand.

When I perform an inspection, I treat every home as if I were inspecting it for my own family. My goal isn’t just to identify defects — it’s to help you understand the condition of the home, what needs immediate attention, what should be monitored, and what maintenance can help protect your investment for years to come.

At Big Sky Inspections, you can expect a thorough inspection, an honest assessment, and straightforward communication. My reputation is built on integrity, experience, and providing the information you need to move forward with confidence.

“I appreciate the opportunity to earn your trust and look forward to helping you with one of life’s most important investments.”
